It was my first time doing door-to-door evangelism having to ask a person "Do you have a relationship with Jesus?"
Our team of five met a man and his son outside their home. Jerry, from Colorado, greeted the man and his son in Spanish. Shortly after, the man's wife came out of the house and Jerry turned and greeted her as well. Jerry engaged the woman with a few pleasantries and also introduced our group. He then turned to me and asked in English whether I wanted to talk with them. I nodded assent but still asked him, "What do I say?" Jerry said, "Ask them whether they go to church." I did in English and Jerry translated in Spanish….Even with my groping over what I was to say and Jerry graciously streamlining my thoughts in translation, we found that the woman was going to a church much further away than the nearby church we were promoting the meetings form. The man said he had not gone to church since he was a child. At this point, I asked the man whether he could be interested in a relationship with Jesus and when he indicated interest, in my trembly state, I didn't know what else to say. Instead, I connected him with the pastor of the church who was with us. The pastor stepped right in and spoke with the couple in Spanish, presenting Christ and even sharing some needed marital advice.
Towards the end, after the invitation of the couple to the meetings held that evening at church, I offered prayer with Jerry translating.
The women had tears in her eyes. The man's look had softened and he seemed appreciative of what just took place.
That evening at church, I looked to see the man and his wife were in the back of the room. After David's message and the altar call given, the man, his wife and two children came to the front and gave their hearts to Christ as a family.
I wept with a joy indescribable. The Lord had used our team, this one Tuesday, to bring a family to Christ.
